Which game console should I buy?
Dokus on Twitter asked which game console to buy today.
Several suggestions as to which one is better followed. The best answer (from @Clopin) was probably to buy the console most of your friends have.
The difference in quality is only visible if you have both consoles on two of the same screens right next to each other. Yes, I know the PS3 has clearly better performance stats, but the Xbox360 delivers great graphics and performances as well.
I currently have all three recent consoles.
First came the Xbox360. I bought it for the Xbox exclusive ‘Gears of War 2’. And GTA IV had exclusives which later became available on PS3…
The Wii followed a year later. A great console for when you have company.
About 5 months later, I bought the PS3. I wanted a blu-ray player and online console gaming for free, something PSN offers as opposed to Xbox Live which requires a (monthly) fee.
The Wii belongs in its own category. It’s not a single player console. It’s more a family/party console. There are exceptions of course, the most notable one Mario Bros., although it has a party mode. There’s also the Wii Fit…

The Xbox360 and the PS3 are offline single player/online multiplayer consoles. Most games on the Xbox can be bought on the PS3 and visa versa. There is the occasional exclusive, either an entire game, either a DLC. But these sometimes, not often, even out after some time.
The latest example will be Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. PS3 owners who buy the game will get a free DLC before those who’ll have it on the Xbox360. The PC version of this game will be released in February 2011 and the DLC will most likely be included in the game. So it’s like ‘You get a DLC! And you get a DLC! Everybody gets a DLC!’. Sorry, Oprah gets to me sometimes…
I am not going into the details of each console’s specifications. I am going to repeat what I said earlier: The difference in quality is only visible if you have both consoles on two of the same screens right next to eachother. With that in mind, the best console to buy is the one most of your friends have.
Then again, you might want to do some research on what the future has to bring… Xbox Kinect… PS Move… This Wired article on Kinect gave me doubts whether I should get it or not. It’s great fun, but you have to keep certain things in mind. This is another article on Kinect by NYTimes. That’s all I’ve actually read so far. From what I’ve heard, the PS Move has more titles. More heavy hitters too.
