Although it starts off slow with ‘Silence’ (Bag Raiders Remix), it picks up quickly with the second track. And maybe it’s just me, but Katie White sometimes has a bit of a Gwen Stefani sound, definitely on ‘Hit Me Down Sonny’. Also, snare drums anyone!
‘Hang It Up’ (Live in Paris) is one of my favorite tracks on the album. When I heard the first 3 bass notes my brain went: “Smells like teen spirit?!”. It does turn out to be a tough song. Well, ‘tough’ in Ting Tings terms. The guitar sounds familiar too. I haven’t been able to pinpoint it yet. I was thinking of Prince at first. I don’t know.
Continuing with ‘Give It Back’ keeps on rocking it. It got me air-drumming. Always a good thing!
‘Guggenheim’ is crazy. Not hectic and wild, but scary mental. Except when you actually listen to the lyrics. I guess you might need to hear the song to fully understand what I’m trying to say here. ;-)
‘Soul Killing’, despite the title is an uplifting song; Summertime music with a kick some ass attitude. ‘Day To Day’ (acoustic) continues with the spring/summer type feel. It is one of those tracks that when you realize you haven’t pressed the skip button, you know you’ve got it bad. Butterflies all over the place, if you know what I mean.
I found ‘One By One’ and ‘Help’ both to be rather boring. These two songs don’t seem to go anywhere.
The final track ‘In your life’ is a nice and slow exit. It made me somewhat think of the ‘Kill Bill’ soundtrack.
The album cover kicks ass, but the sticker saying ‘Possibly the album of 2012’ is pushing it a bit (imho). Like I said, it is very enjoyable. I am definitely keeping a couple of songs on my daily playlist.
